Louis Tomlinson's ex-girlfriend Briana Jungwirth has hit back at online trolls following "disparaging, hateful and inappropriate comments" about their 5-month-old son Freddie Reign.

The 23-year-old Los Angeles-based stylist took to Twitter to ask for privacy for herself and her family after the "venomous attacks".

She wrote: "To all those who feel the need to make disparaging, hateful and inappropriate comments concerning me and my son Freddie - I am sincerely sorry that you all have chosen to focus your time and attention on my life and the life of my son.

"Surely you must have better things to do than pry into the personal life of a single mom and newborn child.

"I am a proud new mother that is extremely joyous about my child being in this world and have shared that joy with my friends and family on a daily basis - often times through social media.

"However, that does not give anyone the right, or the invitation to be nasty and disparaging toward me."

"So, please stop prying into the private and personal facts of my life and my son's life in order to weave stories and peak public interest. The things that you discuss, and the sources that you rely on are extremely off base and unreliable."

In April, Jungwirth and Tomlinson hit out at "sick and morally wrong" claims from One Direction fans that their baby Freddie was fake. Yes you read that right. Fake.

At the time, Jungwirth said: "I don't usually speak out much, but I'd like to know how would you feel as a new proud mother reading something like this?

"How dare anyone call my child fake... Say all you'd like but I won't let anyone take away the happiness I have for my baby son. I know Louis won't either."

Last week it was reported that Tomlinson had filed for joint custody of Freddie Reign. The 24-year-old singer is asking for 50/50 physical and legal custody between him and Jungwirth.

TMZ reported that the One Direction star is seeking the legal ruling as his time with the baby has been "inconsistent" in recent weeks.

It was first reported that Tomlinson and Jungwirth were to become parents in July 2015. They met earlier in the year after the One Direction singer split from his long-time girlfriend Eleanor Calder.
