Dallas Buyers Club star Matthew McConaughey is returning to his alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin, to teach a film studies class.

Joining the Oscar winner to teach Advance Producing: Script to Screen will be The Hunger Games director Gary Ross. Ross was behind the lens on McConaughey's new film, the US Civil War drama Free State of Jones, which is based on a true story.

"By studying the movie's source material, script, shot lists, storyboards, shooting schedule, VFX, final cut and even exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, students will garner insight into the production of a major Hollywood feature," the course's online description says. Students from the University of Texas at Austin also worked on the film.

However, US trade daily Variety says that the majority of McConaughey's lectures will be delivered through pre-recorded videos, although he is also expected to visit the campus.

McConaughey graduated with a Bachelor's degree in radio, television and film from the University of Texas in 1993. He was cast in Richard Linklater's 1993 coming-of-age classic Dazed and Confused while a student there.
