Michael Fassbender will be honoured in his hometown of Killarney later this year for his achievements in the film industry and for helping to boost the town's profile internationally.
The X-Men star will be inducted in The Order of Innisfallen, an honour given by Killarney's Chamber of Tourism and Commerce to individuals who have contributed to the area's local economy.
The 39-year-old two-time Academy Award nominee was born in Germany and his family moved to Kerry in 1979.
Earlier this year he was nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA for his role in the Steve Jobs biopic and added a fifth IFTA award to his mantlepiece in recognition of his work in the film. He's currently dating Swedish Actress Alicia Vikander, who herself was nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl.
Fassbender will be presented with the award at a back tie ball on October 7 in the Europe Hotel and Resort in Fossa, Co. Kerry, which is just a stone's throw away from his family home where his parents Josef and Adele still live.
Fassbender was once an altar boy at the nearby Prince of Peace Church in Fossa, and he attended the local national school before going on to St Brendan's College in Killarney.
