Daniel O'Donnell says he and his wife Majella have been "put through our paces" in the second series of B&B Road Trip.

The 54-year-old Donegal native, who travels the nation with his wife Majella on the hit show to stay at the B&B's of fans, admitted that the couple have stepped further out of their comfort zone for the second series which moves from UTV Ireland to RTÉ.

"We've been recording it already. We're meeting great characters and Majella and I are being put through our paces, doing things that we don't expect we'll ever do - but we're enjoying them," O'Donnell told RTÉ TEN.

"I've been doing things that I wouldn't choose to do and maybe have a fear of. We've enjoyed travelling around again," he added.

"We have eight B&B's visited and we still have four more houses to go to. I'm delighted that RTÉ took up the show because UTV couldn't. We would have hated not to have had another run.

"My wish is that the show goes further afield and it's still being talked about for airing on public television in America. I would love it to go out in the UK too," he added.

The country star says he often forgets the cameras are following him and can come across as being snappy because of the long drives.

"You forget sometimes that the cameras are there. I might be a bit snappier than I thought I was and maybe a bit gruff at times. Majella can be a bit tetchy too. It's all to do with the driving," O'Donnell said.

O’Donnell is set to host the inaugural RTÉ Irish Country Music Awards on Friday night and the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant says he won't be dazzling fans with his dancing on the night.

"I don't know if there will be a dancing entrance," he laughed. I think maybe I'll cautiously be in place," he added.

The event, which will be broadcast on RTÉ One at 9.35pm will celebrate the very best of Irish along with performances on the night from Nathan Carter, Big Tom, Derek Ryan, Michael English and Mike Denver.

Daniel will be bringing his Christmas show to Dublin's Convention Centre on December 10 and 11 and will be joined by The Presentation Kilkenny Choir from Britain's Got Talent. Tickets are on sale from this Saturday.
