Alanis Morissette has settled a $15 million lawsuit with her former business manager over claims he embezzled money from her accounts.
The 42-year-old Canadian singer and bosses at GSO Business Management (a company which has looked after finances of Beyoncé and Mariah Carey) settled the case against their former employee Jonathan Schwartz, who oversaw the singer's earnings until earlier this year.
Morissette claims she was robbed of almost $5 million (€4million) by her former business manager, who handled her finances between 2009 and 2016.
It was claimed that he swindled the money to pay for "a lavish lifestyle" including a $50,000 (€42,700) vacation to Bora Bora and to pay an outstanding gambling debt of $75,000 (€66,000) at a casino in the Bahamas.
"I am pleased to have the civil part of this matter resolved," Morissette said in a joint statement issued by the singer and GSO executives on Wednesday. The terms of the settlement have not been released.
In papers filed in a Los Angeles Court in May, the singer claimed Schwartz transferred money to his own accounts without permission.
Schwartz's explanation for the irregularities was that he transferred money to fund an “investment” in a marijuana-growing business for Morissette, and to avoid trips to the bank because the singer “spends a lot of cash”. She denied these claims.
