James Corden is making waves over in the US with his own talk-show but he has admitted he struggled to get work previously because of his appearance.
The 37-year-old The Late Late Show and Carpool Karaoke host says his career hasn't always been successful and says he found it difficult to break the entertainment industry as a result of his looks.
“Decisions when I started were only made on the way I looked. They were like ‘You look like this, so you will work your way to playing a bubbly judge or something.'
"I would audition twice a month and go up to London and not get it. At the time it would be demoralising," Corden told The Sunday People. "The only thing that separates an amateur and a professional is rejection, when you are either told you are too fat or your ears are too big."
Corden, first shot to fame in the hit BBC show Gavin and Stacey in 2007, playing the part of Smithy, while also co-writing the series.
Corden says the setbacks made him more determined, “I don’t remember a time when I did not want to perform in some capacity,” he said. “My career’s officer told me that I needed something to fall back on. That to me was a thought to failure. I have always thought that if I don’t give up then I won’t fail.”
