Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has said he believes there is definitely something between his character Jaime Lannister and Gwendoline Christie's Brienne of Tarth – but he doubts they'll ever act on it.

For quite some time now, fans of the show have been hoping for a romance between the two unlikely friends, and it's not just the fandom that has noticed the spark between them with Coster-Waldau admitting that there is "clearly" something there.

Spoiler alert for those who haven't seen season 6 episode 8 No One.

In this week's episode, No One, Jaime and Brienne were reunited as they stood on opposing sides of a siege.

Taking Brienne's advice, Jaime managed to negotiate a peaceful end to the siege and the moment they shared as she rowed away was bittersweet.

Speaking about that scene in particular, Coster-Waldau said, "There's no question, you see that in this scene – there is more between them.

"Clearly there is something going on between Jaime and Brienne, and clearly it's something they can't act on. Maybe in a very secret moment, but they would never verbalise it."

The episode featured a nod to their feelings for one another with Bronn (Jerome Flynn) telling Pod (Daniel Portman) that there was definitely an attraction there (of course he used more direct language, it's Bronn!).

Coster-Waldau added that he doesn't think they will ever have the opportunity to act on any feelings that they might have because they always put other people's agendas ahead of their own.

"It's less to do about their relationship, more about their own personal journey as human beings," he told TVLine. "Everything they do, they're following someone else's agenda all the time – by choice."

"In a weird way, someone else's agenda or feelings always come before [Brienne and Jaime's] own. I'm not even sure that they would allow themselves to go to that place," he said.

This week there was a chance that they would have to face each other in battle and Coster-Waldau weighed in on how that would likely end if it comes to that further down the line.

"There's no question that if it comes to that, they'll both do it (kill each other). And obviously, she's going to kill him in an instant," he added.

Game of Thrones continues on Sky Atlantic on Monday at 2am and 9pm.
