Former Desperate Housewives' star Nicollette Sheridan has been granted a new trial date in her long-running dispute with the show.

The hugely successful comedy-drama may have ended four years ago, but Sheridan's spat with creator Marc Cherry and ABC/Touchstone remain a sore point since she was sensationally sacked in 2009.

Sheridan played Wisteria Lane man-eater Edie Britt for the show's first five seasons until she was shown the door. Sheridan later claimed she was struck on set by Marc Cherry and lost her job when she complained.

The 52-year-old actress will be back in court on June 5, 2017 to pursue her claim after a Californian court ruled that the case could go ahead.

It has been more than five years since her last Desperate Housewives trial ended in a mistrial.

Cherry and a number of ex-ABC executives testified that discussions for Sheridan's character to exit took place before the incident.

The new trial is set to last just over two weeks and will see Sheridan take the stand, though Cherry is not as likely to get called after he was released from the original case before it went to jury in 2012.

Sheridan's former Desperate Housewives co-stars Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross are on the defence witness list, but this doesn't guarantee they will actually appear.
