Kiefer Sutherland is reportedly not ruling out the chance of bringing Jack Bauer back to the small screen in the upcoming 24 reboot, 24: Legacy.

The actor, who first played counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in 24 in 2001, has not signed on to star in 24: Legacy, which is being lead by Straight Outta Compton's Corey Hawkins, but there is a chance he might make an appearance in the series.

Sutherland, who is remaining involved in the series as an executive producer, has not signed a deal to appear on screen but his fellow producer Howard Gordon is hopeful that he will at some point.

Corey Hawkins will take the lead in 24: Legacy

"I do think the character has life in him, whether it's a movie or if he intersects with this new iteration of 24," Gordon said at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, Texas. "I sure would love to see him at some point on the show, and I don't think he's ruled it out, either."

Sutherland is currently leading the cast in a new drama Designated Survivor but Hollywood Insider website Deadline has reported that a guest appearance in 24: Legacy would not create a conflict in his schedule.

When asked about the finale of 24: Live Another Day, the last time we saw Sutherland as Bauer, Gordon said, "I don't know how public this is but we didn't question or consider this being Jack's last moment, Jack's end. We couldn't bring ourselves [to kill him]."

24: Legacy is set to premiere in 2017.
