Irish actress and star of Outlander, Caitriona Balfe has spoken of her struggle with her pale Celtic skin during her previous career as a fashion model, which often required her to get two spray-tans.
Balfe, who at the height of her career was considered to be one of the most in-demand models in the world, worked the runway for all the major fashion houses as well as Victoria's Secret.
However, during an appearance on Conan O'Brien's late night US talk show, the Monaghan woman joked that she was probably the "whitest girl on the stage" when she was strutting her stuff on the catwalk for the lingerie retailer.
“Something like that was so weird for me because it was like the Brazilian bombshells, and I don’t know, I’m just not like that and I mean I was the whitest girl on the stage,” she said.
“And I had gone and I had gotten a spray tan and I went and showed them and...they were just like ‘can you go get another one?' And then I came back with my second spray tan and I was still the whitest girl on the stage".
The Golden Globe nominated actress, who's currently starring alongside George Clooney and Julia Roberts in the new movie Money Monster said she has no regrets about her previous career which allowed her "to travel all over the world".
In Money Monster, Balfe plays Diane Lester, the chief communications officer of IBIS, a company whose stocks have just plummeted after being endorsed by a showy business show host played by Clooney.
For much of the film, her character interacts with the other stars remotely as she appears as an on-air contributor to the live television show, which is being directed by Roberts' character.
Balfe recently revealed that she was "teased quite a bit" by her famous co-stars on the set.
"They could see me and hear me, but I could only hear them, and so they were teasing me quite a bit," she said.
"It's weird when you can't see somebody and you're trying to have a conversation. They were like, 'What are you doing? What are you reading there?'".
Money Monster is currently on release in Irish cinemas from today.
