He's kept his filmography very varied but Michael Fassbender has said romantic comedies don't really interest him, so we won't be seeing him in one any time soon.

"I've got a few [romantic comedies] of them [pitched to me]. Nothing against them but it's just that I don't tend to go see a romantic comedy that often, they don't really interest me that much. [But] I do like comedies," Fassbender said on the red carpet at the Sydney premiere of X-Men: Apocalypse.

So what does the Oscar-nominated Kerryman actually like to go and see?

"Sometimes I want to go in and enjoy a rollercoaster ride and escape for two hours, a fantasy ride. And then other times, I want to go see something that's more of a social commentary and is a smaller-type film. So like to play both as well," he said.

Speaking about the sustainability of superhero movies, such as the X-Men series in which he plays Magneto, he told news.com.au, "Things will go the way they will. Things will always run their course at some point. Back in the fifties people were watching a lot of westerns. Things have cycles to them but I don't know when," Fassbender explained.

X-Men: Apocalypse is in cinemas now. Read our review here.
