Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip travels to RTÉ

Daniel and Majella: it'll B&B alright on the night
Daniel and Majella: it'll B&B alright on the night

It was the biggest break-out hit for fledgling channel, UTV Ireland, but now it has suffered a huge blow with news that Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip has moved to RTÉ One.

The show was regularly one of the station's biggest and unlikelist ratings draws, and clocked up 335,100 viewers on average. Hopes were high that a second series would be produced but, in what is undoubtedly a huge setback for the station, the show has been snapped up by its rival.

One of the highlights from the first season was Anne Sheerin, who became an internet sensation following her emotional and very sweet reaction to Daniel and Majella’s arrival at her B&B, in the heart of Tulsk village, Co. Roscommon.

Despite the move to a different channel it's business as usual for the O'Donnells. They are hitting the road again this summer and now they're on the hunt for B&B owners who would fancy a visit. And a camera crew, of course.

Speaking about the series Ray McCarthy, Commissioning Editor, RTÉ, said: "We're delighted to have Daniel and Majella on board at RTÉ One. We're huge fans of both of them and it's a great series highlighting Ireland's many unique and colourful tourism spots."

Philip Kampff from Vision Independent Productions, the makers of the show, said they are thrilled that the show is continuing in a new home.

"We are delighted RTE is giving us the chance to take to the road again with Daniel and Majella. It was a very special show for us last year and we are looking forward to more of the unique hospitality you only get in an Irish B&B."

Applications are now open for potential B&B owners who would like to throw open their doors to Daniel and Majella and welcome them in for tea and a bit of craic. Sure, what better thrill is there?

Anne Sheerin is still on cloud nine after her experience welcoming the O'Donnell's last year.

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 18th May.
