Russell Crowe will play Dr Jekyll in the upcoming The Mummy reboot that has Tom Cruise at the top of its cast list.
The 52-year-old had been strongly rumoured to land the role of the Robert Louis Stevenson-created character in the film, which will feature several classic monsters.
"Yeah, I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna play Dr Henry Jekyll, Fellow of the Royal Society," Crowe told The Collider.
"It's very interesting, what they're gonna do with that stuff. I've had a couple of chats about it with the director (Alex Kurtzman)."
Fans of franchise filming will be delighted to learn that The Mummy is the first movie in a new monster-movie universe, similar to Marvel's Avengers, which will include characters such as Jekyll and Hide, Invisible Man, Wolf Man and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
The star-studded cast also includes Johnny Depp, who will play the Invisible Man, with a plot about an awakened ancient queen (played by Sofia Boutella) who brings "malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension".
Crowe is also set to get his own film in the series of new monster movies.
The Mummy is due for release on June 9th, 2017.
