Oscar-nominated Kerry actor Michael Fassbender is in talks to portray a real-life Austrian serial killer in his new film, Entering Hades.
US entertainment trade publication Variety, which first reported Fassbender's involvement, says that Entering Hades is based on John Leake's book of the same name and tells the story of Jack Unterweger, a convicted killer-turned-best-selling author. When Unterweger was released from prison in 1990, having served the minimum 15 years of a life sentence, he began killing again.
After a manhunt in Europe, Canada and the US, Unterweger was arrested in Florida in 1992. Tried in his native Austria, he was convicted of nine murders and took his own life following the guilty verdicts.
Fassbender's production company, DMC Film, is among the producers on Entering Hades. The actor is partnered in DMC by friends Conor McCaughan and Daniel Emmerson.
The trio have already enjoyed success with their Western Slow West, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival last year; and the short Pitch Black Heist, which won a BAFTA in 2011. Both Slow West and Pitch Black Heist were directed by John Maclean and starred Fassbender.

DMC Film is also among the producers on the upcoming big screen adaptation of hit game series Assassin's Creed. The film, which stars Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons and Brendan and Brian Gleeson, will be released in cinemas on December 26.

Fassbender was Oscar-nominated earlier this year in the Best Actor category for his portrayal of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in the Danny Boyle-directed film of the same name.
He was also a Best Supporting Actor nominee in 2014 for his role as plantation owner Edwin Epps in 12 Years a Slave.
