Radiohead have channelled the spirit of late sixties kids' show Trumpton and cult horror film The Wicker Man in the eerie new video for their latest single, Burn The Witch.
The song was released just days after the band 'erased' themselves from the internet. They deleted every post from their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts presumably to avoid the intense scrutiny that comes with social media or probably more accurately as a publicity stunt
Ironically then that the first teaser for the new work came on Instagram, featuring strong echoes of the climatic scene in The Wicker Man made all the more sinister mixed with echoes of well remembered children's TV.
Burn the Witch was made available online on Tuesday afternoon and is the band's first new material since 2011.
The surprise release comes after weeks of frenzied speculation about the release of Radiohead's ninth album, their first since 2011's King of Limbs.
Burn The Witch was trailed with brief clips on social media earlier on Tuesday, with a message from the band's management claiming that Radiohead's new album will sound “like nothing you’ve ever heard”.

However, the new song has been greeted as a bold return to classic form for the increasingly enigmatic and atonal fivepiece.
Burn The Witch will be available on all digital services at one minute past midnight on Wednesday, May 4.
