Simon Delaney has revealed that despite starring in the upcoming sequel to horror hit The Conjuring, he has never seen a horror film in his life and he will be watching the film's premiere through his hands.

Delaney, who filmed scenes in Los Angeles and London for the film back in the autumn alongside fellow Irish actor Maria Doyle Kennedy, revealed that scary movies aren't really his cup of tea.

"I've never seen a horror film in my life, never sat through one in my life," he said.

"The Angelus upsets me - I'm brutal - Breaking Bad has me on the edge of my seat. I've seen clips of it [The Conjuring 2] and it's very good, very frightening, but very good," he told RTÉ TEN.

The star, who is currently preparing for a role in the Irish premiere of Driving Miss Daisy in Dublin's Gaiety Theatre, added that even though they were filming creepy and scary scenes, they had a lot of laughs on set.

"That's the bizarre thing, because I thought 'what's it going to be like on the set of a horror film?' because I'd never been on one," he explained.

"We had this discussion about a week into filming with Warner Bros. and the director, James Wan, who directed the original Conjuring and the Fast & Furious series, and he said he read an interview recently with John Carpenter, who is the father of all horror movies, and Carpenter said horror sets are the funniest in the world, and he was right.

"I dunno what it was, we laughed all the time, even though we're watching very strange things happening, and even some things started happening to the crew, weird, unexplainable stuff, but we laughed. There's some incredible stuff in there. It'll frighten the life out of you," Delaney added.

The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist opens in Irish cinemas on June 17, however don't let the 'Enfield' in the title confuse you. The sequel is set in the London borough, not the Co Meath town.

The film sees Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reprise their roles as paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren. They travel to London to help a single mother and her four children, with of course plenty of creepy results.
