Edina and Patsy are soon to be unleashed onto the big screen and judging by the first trailer for the upcoming Ab Fab Movie, their antics are set to be bigger and more outlandish than ever. Like snuffing out Kate Moss for example.
Yes sweeties, the hapless duo, played marvellously by Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, are back and wreaking havoc like never before. The first full-length trailer for the Ab Fab Movie shows the two are still the same hot mess of cigarettes and Bollinger, though maybe just creaking a little bit at the seams.
As Edina confesses, "I think I am now officially fatter sideways than I am front on."
After Patsy dishes that Kate Moss is looking for new PR representation, the two gatecrash a fabulous fashion event in order to track her down and get her on the books. And lo! There she is bathed in angelic light chatting to none other than Mad Men's John Hamm (one of about a zillion cameos in the movie. We'd be here all day if we listed them all).
However in her rush to get Kate's attention, Edina knocks the supermodel off a ledge and into the Thames, never to be seen again. Cue, hysteria and public opprobrium.
Following the scandal, the PR mavens skip town and head to the French Riveria to make a glamorous new life for themselves, where it appears they get married after Patsy undergoes gender reassignment for the second time (she had a a sex change in the 1970s but it didn't last long as "it fell off").
Naturally the whole thing is delightfully bonkers, and should keep fans of the original TV series happy after an admitted dip in quality in the latter years. Though as we've seen with Ali G and Mr Bean among others, very often a successful television comedy doesn't make the transition well to the big screen when story lines are stretched over two hours.
Still, Jennifer Saunders has managed to rope in plenty of star names for the movie. A staggering sixty - sixty! cameo roles are slated for the movie alongside the original cast including Rebel Wilson (who also pops up in the trailer) Dame Edna Everage, Dawn French, Stella McCartney, Perez Hilton, Jerry Hall, Jean Paul Gaultier and Graham Norton.
That's either a sign of a good quality script or a desperate attempt to pad out a very thin plot, though judging from the trailer and the reaction to the movie so far on social media, it does look like a proper hoot in the anarchic spirit of the much loved sitcom. And that darlings, is just fabulous!
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie is due to hit cinemas on July 1
