D'ya like dags? Well there's a Snatch TV series planned

Sixteen years after its release, Guy Ritchie's underworld caper Snatch is to be made into a ten-part TV series.

The cult film about a ragtag group of criminals and low-level hustlers trying to track down a stolen diamond was released in 2000 and starred Jason Statham and Benicio Del Toro.

However, Snatch is best remembered by Irish audiences for Brad Pitt's rather unique (cough!) take on an Irish accent in the role of traveller, Mickey O'Neill, in particular the phrase "D'ya like dags? which went on to adorn countless t-shirts.

Now plans have been unveiled by Sony's US streaming service, Crackle, to turn the movie into a ten-part series.

Inspired by the success of the TV spin-off of the Coen brothers' movie, Fargo, Crackle have decided to create their own version of Guy Ritchie's movie in the same vein which, while being true to the spirit of the movie will instead create "a new world” with a new cast. So does that mean no more Irish 'Pikie' characters with a dodgy accents?

Well, faster than you can say Snatch, Crackle and Pop, the makers have dropped hints that we might at least get to see a very similar one to that created by Brad Pitt.

According to reports the Snatch TV series is inspired by a real London heist in which a couple of low-key hustlers ended up stealing a highly valuable piece of gold. The group of mid-twenties criminals are thrust into the world of organised crime in which they meet international mobsters, corrupt police officers, and gypsy fighters.

There are no details yet on when the series is being released or if audiences on this side of the Atlantic will get a chance to see it.
