Aidan Turner's topless scything scene in Poldark has now gone down in TV history, but it turns out that a producer on the show was worried that the star didn't have the looks to bring in the viewers.

The 32-year-old Dubliner became an instant heartthrob after his shirtless agricultural workout in the fields of Cornwall last year but composer Anne Dudley has now revealed that she had to convince Poldark executive producer Damian Timmer that Turner really was the right man for the job.

"It is true, Damien did ask me, 'Do you think women will find Aidan attractive?' she told The Mirror. "I said, 'I don't think you will have a problem'."

To the disappointment of the show's legions of Turner devotees, it was recently revealed that his character, Ross Poldark, will be keeping wrapped up for the second series of the BBC show as "autumn is very chilly in Cornwall".

Series two will air on the BBC this autumn.
