Dublin author Derek Landy will release the second novel in his Demon Road trilogy on April 7 and he says it was inspired by his lifelong love of slasher movies, Stephen King novels, and modern urban legends.

The blurb for Desolation reads, "Reeling from their bloody encounter in New York City, Amber and Milo flee north in the second tale in the thriller trilogy. On their trail are the Hounds of Hell - five demonic bikers who will stop at nothing to drag their quarries back to their unholy master. Amber and Milo’s only hope lies within Desolation Hill - a small town with a big secret."

"I was brought up on thrillers," says the novelist.  "At first, it was the Universal and Hammer movies, played in black and white and glorious Technicolor on my TV screen when I was a kid.

"Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, The Fly, The Wolfman. Once bitten, I was ravenous - much like the zombies in Dawn of the Dead that I first watched on late night TV.

"Demon Road was born out of this lifelong love and incorporates elements from slasher movies, Stephen King novels, modern urban legends and that classic sub-genre: the killer car."

Desolation arrives after five million sales for Landy's nine-book Skulduggery Pleasant series, which have been translated into 36 languages. Such is the demand for Landy's work among younger readers that the third instalment in the trilogy will follow in six months time.

Derek Landy became a publishing star in 2007 with the arrival of Skulduggery Pleasant. The prolific novelist has picked up many awards, including Irish Book of the Decade, Red House Book Award, Publisher’s Weekly Best Book of the Year. His work has also been selected for Oprah Winfrey’s Book Club Kids Reading List.
