Coronation Street legend Bill Roache, who has played iconic character Ken Barlow since the show began in 1960, has said that learning his lines for the ITV soap is "getting a bit harder".

In an interview with British newspaper The Mirror, the 83-year-old actor discussed his onscreen longevity.

"I just keep going," he said. "I turn up and learn my lines."

"It is getting a bit harder to learn them but it does not have the same pressure as if you do a live episode. They are a nightmare."

Coronation Street celebrated ITV's 60th birthday last year with a live episode, with Roache claiming that people enjoying watching such shows to see if the cast will "mess up" their lines.

He also voiced his disapproval of some celebrity cameos on Coronation Street

"It is OK if they are good actors but I don't like them bringing in people who are known for something else," he said.
