Debbie McGee has given her first interview since the death of her late husband, magician and TV presenter Paul Daniels.

The 77-year-old died last Thursday (March 17) after being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, and McGee spoke lovingly about him in a moving interview with The Mail on Sunday.

"I really will miss the magic, not the tricks, just him, his magic," she said. "We were always a team; we were always together. He was the love of my life. I could never and would never replace him."

McGee revealed that she is arranging a private funeral ceremony for close friends and family near the couple's home, but added that there will be a public memorial.

All three of Daniels' sons from his first marriage and his ex-wife Jacqueline Skipworth will be at the funeral.

The songs being played will include Sammy Davis Jr's versions of Mr Bojangles and Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah as Daniels always told people to "sing that when they were sad".

McGee and Daniels had been married for 28 years and had known each other for 36 years, as she was originally his stage assistant.

"Paul's presence is still everywhere. I'm waiting for him to walk through the door," said McGee. "You don't feel heartbroken, you feel like your heart's been shattered. It's like every part of your being has been torn apart."
