Irish comedy-writers Graham Linehan and Sharon Horgan are joining forces for a new sitcom called Motherland.

The Father Ted and Catastrophe creators have teamed up to create a comedy which is described as a "light-hearted exploration of the daily trials and tribulations of middle-class motherhood".

Linehan's wife Helen Serafinowicz and comedian Holly Walsh, Horgan's regular writing partner, are also involved with the project.

Last month, Linehan spoke to US broadcaster Ken Plume about the project, saying: "I'm working on something at the moment with Holly Walsh and Sharon Horgan and my wife called Motherland that's going very well, we've written a really good first draft and that's turned out nice."

The project is in the early development stages, but has already been snapped up by the BBC and is expected to debut on BBC2 some time later this year.

Horgan is best-known as the creator of the Channel 4 show Catastrophe, which she also starred in, and is clearly is huge demand as she's also working on a new HBO series Divorce with Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
