Tina Fey has announced that a musical theatre production of Mean Girls is in the works.
The writer, actress and comedienne wrote the original 2004 film of the same name and a musical version had been on the cards.
Attending a press conference for her new film Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, she revealed that a theatrical stage version of the hit film is currently being written.
"My husband, [composer] Jeff Richmond and I, [along with lyricist] Nell Benjamin, have been working on it,’ Fey said.
The film starred Lindsay Lohan as a Cady Heron, who falls in with a clique known as the ‘Plastics’ after swapping home school for high school - but she soon discovers that being popular isn't all it’s cracked up to be.
It also starred Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert.
