A storm in a teacup: Ronan Keating's wife sets the record straight about her name

Ronan Keating's wife Storm Keating has cleared up reports about her real moniker saying that her parents named her Sharyn on her birth certificate because they didn't want kids to make fun of her.

On 2fm's Breakfast Republic on Monday, viral weather sensation Teresa Mannion let slip to co-hosts Jennifer Zamparelli and Keith Walsh, that Storm Keating's real name is Sharyn.

It didn't take long for the Australian TV producer to set the record straight on Twitter.

Taking to the social media site, 34-year-old Storm shared a photo of her original birth cert and sent it to Zamparelli, formerly Maguire, explaining she has always gone by her middle name.

“My birth certificate for @JenniferMaguire and anyone else who is curious about my name,” she wrote.

“My parents took the name “Storm” from one of the novels in Wilbur Smith’s first trilogy (a famous South African journalist) because they loved it and have called me Storm since I was born.

“They made my first name ‘Sharyn’ because they were worried that people might make fun of me.”

Storm pointed out other celebrities who go by their middle name, including Brad Pitt, Ashton Kutcher and Rihanna.

Zamparelli then responded by sharing a snap of her won birth cert, proving that her real name is Ronan, with the caption “Seeing as we are being honest.”

Jennifer also asked Storm if she would be up for a chat on 2fm’s Breakfast Republic tomorrow.

Ronan Keating recently said his wife has taught him to work differently as a songwriter.

"She's taught me to work differently as a writer," Ronan told News.com.au. "So I spent the past 12 months changing my way of writing and my approach. She taught me to question myself more. To go back to the drawing board if a song isn't right – even when that's frustrating at times."

Ronan spent over a year writing his new solo album, which he says is inspired by his wife. "This album is full of honesty, and my heart and soul. I've dedicated this album to my wife, Storm; it was inspired by her. We married in 2015 and we've had an incredible year. I guess the lyrics are reflective of that."

The 39-year-old singer also said he is more self-confident these days that he was during his time with Boyzone.

"I'm definitely more comfortable in my own skin. I think that's the one thing age teaches you. You think you know it all when you're 16 or 26, but you don't. I'm 39 now and I definitely know who I am," he added.

Ronan and Storm tied the knot at a luxury estate and golf club in Scotland in august of last year.
