Celebrity Big Brother's Jeremy McConnell has confirmed his split with Stephanie Davis and says that his relationship with her was never "a showmance".

Speaking to Dáithí Ó Sé and Maura Derrane on RTÉ’s Today show on Thursday, the much-tattooed Dubliner added that despite the split, he still loves Davis and added, “What we have was real, it wasn’t showmance, nothing like that.”

The former Mr Ireland said that one time Hollyoaks actress Davis is currently going through a number of personal issues and that he would not abandon her in her time of need. “I love the girl to bits, you don’t break up with someone that is going through something, and you stay together and work.” he told Dáithí and Maura.

He also denied claims that he cheated on her, saying that the two were in a difficult situation after leaving the Celebrity Big Brother house and both were single and could what they wanted.

“She had a boyfriend, we were going to talk about it when she got out and that is the honest truth.”

Speaking with the presenters in the RTÉ Cork studio, McConnell also spoke of family tragedy following the loss of his mother, brother and sister in the space of 15 months as a young teenager and how it shaped his life.

“When I was 15, there were a few tragic deaths in family in the space of a year and a year and a half. I lost my mum, brother and sister within that short time.”
