Sarah Michelle Gellar is reprising her role as arch-manipulator Kathryn Merteuil in the planned TV spin-off of 1999 box office hit Cruel Intentions.
Gellar announced the news of her casting in the pilot on her Instagram account, with US trade daily Variety reporting that she will become a series regular if a full season of the show is ordered.
The planned series will see Gellar's character battling for control of Valmont International and trying to get her claws into Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith), the son of the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) and Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) in the original movie.
While Annette will appear in the series, Witherspoon will not be reprising her role.
The pilot will be directed by Roger Kumble, who also wrote and helmed the original movie.
