In tonight's final episode of 1916, the three-part documentary series airing on RTÉ One, Dublin resident Margaret Morrissey talks about seeing her father being buried in a mass grave at Glasnevin Cemetery following the Easter Rising.
The final part of the acclaimed series, which is narrated by Liam Neeson, deals with the surrender and subsequent executions of the leaders of the Rising and the fundamental changes wrought by these events. Tonight's final episode will also examine the legacy of 1916 and how it still remains living history.
First-person narratives, descriptions of the executions, and last statements of the leaders provide a powerful witness to history. Contributors will also ask questions and analyse the significance of the events of Easter week 1916 both in Ireland itself and also throughout the world.
The final episode of 1916 airs tonight on RTÉ One 9.35pm. You can watch the first two episodes on the RTÉ Player.
