Filmed in front of an audience at the Helix, Des Bishop’s Election (10.30pm, RTÉ Two) promises to cut through to the essence of it all, with a distinctly acerbic tone and/or madcap hilarity, while Bridget & Eamon continues (10.00pm, RTÉ Two). and a new documentary about the embattled FIFA on RTÉ One
Des Bishop’s Election, 10.30pm, RTÉ Two
Oliver Callan’s irascible and corrosively pointed spiel will be hard to beat, but Bishop will not be doing impressions presumably - his line is equally corrosive but perhaps more sympathetic observations on Ireland and our quaint little ways when it comes to the voting box. The General Election, Irish-style, as it floats towards port, through the usual stubborn currents, and with a few new ones to complicate things. The show was filmed in front of a live audience at the Helix theatre, with, we gather, Blindboy Boatclub from the Rubberbandits lending a helping hand.
Des Bishop - which way to vote? An alternative guide . . .
Bridget & Eamon, 10.00pm, RTÉ Two
Eamon loses his job and so Bridget has to get one for the first time ever. Meanwhile, with nothing to do, Eamon accidentally joins the IRA. Written by Jason Butler, and the stars of the show themselves, Jennifer Zamparelli and Bernard O'Shea, the 1980s-era sitcom is proving a massive hit, following its origins as a series of sketches on Republic of Telly. Bridget and Eamon live somewhere in the Midlands with their indeterminate number of children. Chain-smoking Bridget wants the lifestyle from the pages of Woman's Way but wouldn't want to think about how much it would cost to heat South Fork. The set designer alone deserves an IFTA for those odiously carpeted front rooms and lounges.
