While he has put three Oscar-nominated films - Ex Machina, Brooklyn and The Revenant - on his CV in a little over a year, Dublin actor Domhnall Gleeson has said he has no plans to move to the US to further his career.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 32-year-old was asked whether he felt any pressure to set up home nearer Hollywood, given his rising profile.

"I think it's important to keep a place here," he replied on the phone from Dublin. "There's an importance to not living out of a suitcase - at least in my head, there's always a home somewhere. I think it's good not to have boxes of stuff in your parents' house..."

Gleeson said his agents would never put any pressure on him to move to the US because they want him to be happy in his work.

"I'm comfortable in Dublin," he added, echoing the comments of his father Brendan earlier in his own career. "I like it being my home."

Last Monday it was announced that Gleeson would reprise his role as villain General Hux in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII which has just begun filming.

In the interview, he explained why he had been drawn to 'The Dark Side'.

"I liked him because he allowed me to explore the notion of authority - he's someone who enjoys authority and holds onto it at all costs," he said.

"The costume was brilliant and added a whole other layer for me," Gleeson continued. "We talked about the idea that he's an obsessive and probably doesn't sleep much. So he was pale with dark eyes. We wanted him to look like somebody who was dead set on one thing."

Star Wars: Episode VIII is due for release on December 15, 2017.

Brooklyn is nominated for three Oscars at next Sunday's Academy Awards: Best Film, Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Nick Hornby).
