Johnny Depp has settled a legal action he was set to take in Belfast over allegations made by two local publications about the amount of money he spent over a recent legal issue.

The star of gangster movie Black Mass had instructed his lawyers about the online articles in The Mirror and the Belfast Telegraph. The articles made reference to an inaccurate sum of money Depp had allegedly spent dealing with a court case over claims that his wife Amber Heard had imported their two dogs into Australia illegally.

Defamation proceedings were drafted and set to be issued on the Hollywood couple's behalf by Belfast-based lawyer Paul Tweed.

Tweed confirmed today, however, that both cases have been "settled amicably."

The Mirror and the Belfast Telegraph have both issued apologies.

"Johnny and Amber hope that these and other apologies offered to them will finally put an end to unfounded speculation and reports of this nature in the media," Tweed added.
