Singer-songwriter Laura Marling will open for Neil Young on his upcoming summer dates in Ireland and the UK.

The Canadian is taking his recently-released Monsanto Years album on tour, with backing band featuring Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real.

Marling - who released her fifth album Short Movie in 2015 - will open for Young on the tour. Marling says that she learned guitar by accompanying a recording of The Needle and the Damage Done when she was six years old.

She also opened shows for Young in 2012. "I was so nervous and so completely dazed by the whole thing that I don’t remember that much," she told For Folk's Sake. "I know after the last gig my band went in to see him, and he was very sweet and then I came in and just stood there gobsmacked for about five minutes then was wheeled out of the room."

Young and Promise of the Real will take to the stage at the SSE Arena in Belfast on June 7 and Dublin's 3Arena on June 8. The SSE Arena date will mark his first ever gig in Belfast.
