Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes has opened up about the horrific events of the night of the Paris terror attacks.
He and his bandmates were playing at The Bataclan on November 13 last year when terrorists went on a murder spree in the French capital. Some gunmen entered the music venue and killed 89 people.
Speaking on Sweden's TV4, Hughes said he was lucky to make it out of the building alive as he came face-to-face with one of the terrorists while searching for his girlfriend.
"I knew exactly what was going on," he said. "I think I may have been the only one in the whole theatre who knew instantly.
"I didn't see my girl Tuesday. She's the love of my life, and I went back up into the backstage area to look for her and she wasn't there. And then I opened up a hallway and when I went inside the hallway, there was a dude at the end of it holding a gun.
"He didn't see me. The door shut behind me, and I was trying to back up, but he noticed me."
Hughes explained that he thought he was going to die, but managed to escape from the gunman and eventually reunite with Tuesday.
Reflecting on the people who lost their lives at the Bataclan that night, Hughes said that everyone showed "great courage".
"I didn't see a single coward," he said. "I didn't see anyone do anything cowardly. I just saw people doing some of the most beautiful things that a person can do, and for lack of a better way to describe it, my friends died very beautifully.
"They died very well, with great courage."
