The first full-length trailer for Outlander season two has been unveiled and Irish actress Caitriona Balfe is in the thick of it as time traveller Claire Randall.

The Starz drama is based on the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon, with the sophomore run comprising of 13 episodes.

Outlander follows married WWII combat nurse Claire Randall, who finds herself transported to Scotland in 1743, where she meets up with warrior Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan).

The new season will be based on the second book in the series of novels, which is called Dragonfly in Amber.

New additions to the cast include Waterloo Road's Sophie Skelton, Tony winner Frances de la Tour, Being Human's Andrew Gower and renowned French actor Dominique Pinon.

The Starz show is set to premiere on April 9 in the US, and follows on RTÉ2.
