Rebel Wilson exclusively told TEN it was "really embarrassing" trying to subtly pick five guys to kiss for a nightclub scene in new rom-com How to Be Single and revealed one of the extras said the experience had changed his life.

The 35-year-old Australian actress said she went for ethnicity over looks and personality when it came to picking the men she would have to pucker up to.

Speaking exclusively to RTÉ TEN, Rebel said: "I mean it was win/win because for them they were just extras in a nightclub scene and they got bumped up to being a featured extra if they got to kiss me. So they got a cash bonus in their pay check and they got to kiss me," she laughed.

"It's so embarrassing though. Imagine they put all the guys to one side and you've got to walk past and pick out a few but really subtly. I went with different ethnicities as I thought that was fair - diversity in casting," she added.

When asked by her co-star Alison Brie if she managed to get a sense of their personality, Rebel admitted her decision was solely based on the men's appearance.

"I could only judge by what they looked like. I chose an African-American guy and he felt so honoured that he got selected that at the end of the day of filming he came up to me and he said 'I just want to let you know that you've changed my life'.

"And I was like why is he saying that? Did he think he was gay and now after kissing me he knows he's straight? How have I changed his life?"

Rebel and Alison with Dakota Johnson and Leslie Mann at the London premiere of How to Be Single

How To Be Single tells the tale of Alice (Dakota Johnson), Robin (Rebel Wilson), Lucy (Alison Brie) and Meg (Leslie Mann) who all find themselves single in New York.

Brought together by their common relationship status, the group all have to learn how to be single in a world filled with ever-evolving definitions of love.

Both Rebel and Alison agreed that women can be extremely picky when it comes to finding the man of their dreams. So what turns them off in a relationship?

"Smoking turns me off. I don't like it. But I'm not really picky in terms of a physical thing," Rebel said. "There are certain personality traits that can just turn you off. But then is that being too picky or is it just refusing to settle?"

Alison said it's all about women having standards and men having manners, adding: "I hate when someone you are with is rude to the waitress when you are at dinner. You have to have standards. I think every woman should have standards and should have deal-breakers.

"But yeah some people can be too picky and it can get down to things like 'his eyebrows are too bushy' - but we can all teach them out to tweeze later," she laughed.

How to Be Single lands in cinemas on February 19 with previews on Valentine's Day.
