English comedian Phill Jupitus was full of praise for the late broadcaster Terry Wogan on this week's Late Late Show (February 5), and drew an unexpected similarity to the Rubberbandits.

The Never Mind the Buzzcocks star said: "It's a strange analogy to draw, but I see a lot in what Wogan used to do in terms of you'd look at him and make assumptions that were wrong, and he's from Limerick so he's a bit like the Rubberbandits. Terry is basically like the Rubberbandits without a bag, for your nan, because he was that well read and that bright, he was fantastic."

Jupitus also spoke about Blindboy's recent appearance on the Late Late to talk about 1916, saying: "He was brilliant. I look on the Rubberbandits, they're not like a comedy band, I see them as art pranksters. They're making statements with their music.

"The thing is that people don't take them seriously because they're lads with bags on their heads but they're very brilliant boys and they're the pride of this country."

Comedian Jason Manford also had a lot of positive things to say about the current state of Irish comedy, explaining: "I think Irish comedy is leading the way again as it has done in the past...I did a few shows with Tommy Tiernan recently and he has just elevated himself from comedian to funny preacher, a philosopher."

Manford also reminisced on seeing Tiernan perform live on-stage with John Bishop and Jimmy Carr, saying they came out of it thinking "let's all just go home. What is the point?!"
