Top Gear host Chris Evans has announced that former Friends star Matt LeBlanc will join him as one of the BBC Two car show's new co-hosts.

The Golden Globe-winning actor joins the team immediately as filming continues, and he will be the first non-British host in Top Gear's 39-year history.

"As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter," said the 48-year-old LeBlanc. "What a thrill!"

"Matt's a lifelong fellow petrol head and I'm thrilled he's joining Top Gear," said Evans. "Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we'll both be debating some epic road trip ideas.

"We can't wait to share what we've been up to on screen later this year."

LeBlanc appeared as a guest on Top Gear twice during the Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May era, and is the fastest celebrity to date in the show's Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car segment.
