Warm tributes have been paid to Terry Wogan by the public since his passing

Since the sad news broke yesterday of Terry Wogan's passing, fans have been sharing their memories of the broadcaster and paying tribute to him and his legendary wit. Here's a selection of some of the comments sent to RTÉ TEN.

Marcus O'Brien: Our greatest export to Britain. The Irish entertainers ruled British entertainment down the years. Thanks for the memories Terry. RIP.

Mary Pocock: So sorry to hear of Terry's death. I was lucky to have had the honour of talking to him a few times. The first time he rang me I was expecting a call from a Michael Wogan, so I said if I did not know better I would think I was talking to the real Terry Wogan and he responded 'that old geezer". Such was his humour and wit. A great loss to all of us. May he rest in peace.

Andrew: Listening to BBC Radio 2 and am enjoying all the wonderful tributes. I shall remember the corpsing, wheezing and general silliness that for me made his morning shows. A great, great broadcaster and certainly a great loss.

WhackerCarthy: I remember when he was asked how he felt after bombings during the UK IRA campaign. He replied: "Twice as bad as everybody else." I thought he would never die and to go so quickly. A great phrase of his was: "If God spares us."Very sad. RIP

Ellen: I admired his graciousness and the fact that he was soo proud of his roots. And so grateful for everything that he achieved in the UK. May you rest in peace Sir Terry. And sincerest condolences to your family.

Pat Minogue: So sorry to hear of Terry's passing. My sincere Sympathies to all his family.

Michael: As an Irish person living in Britain Terry was mighty craic with his Irish version of Peugeot cars pronounced the Irish way. Sail up to the big broadcasting studio in the sky Terry. God Bless You.

Patrick: For those of us who lived in Britain during the dark days of the 1970's Terry Wogan was one of the few things that we could look to with pride. Very sad to hear of his passing. RIP (Name the Shannon Tunnel after him).

Kath: So sorry to hear that Sir Terry Wogan has passed away today. Condolences to his family. I shall say a few prayers for him and his family may he rest in peace. He was such a lovely man and will be sadly missed by all. God bless x

Agnes Freeman: He was great and so funny brilliant with the one liners. Thanks for the memories Terry. RIP

Mattie: Great memories of his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show growing up. Effortless professional broadcasting. This generation of so called " broadcasters" could well do with taking a few leaves out of his book.

Duncan: Such a great Ambassador for Ireland, and as a Brit [sic] I feel he linked our 2 counties together with humour and humility during a time when the Anglo-Irish relationship was at it's worst. Thanks for lending us your son, County Limerick. RIP Terry, Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Thomas Collopy: "May Heaven be your Bed Tonight" R,I.P.

Jim: Great guy, loved his wit.To me a gentleman.

Alexander: Such very sad news, the world will be a lesser place without you Terry. Will miss you X

Maurice: He was an inspiration and a role model for all of us that came over from Ireland to work and live in Britain. It wasn't easy to come from a small country and make it to the top at the BBC, but that's what he achieved. Great Irish ambassador. RIP.

Dick Martin: Sir terry is a great loss to broadcasting and to society in the UK and Ireland

Brian: Another legend gone. Ireland and Britain unites over the death of a great broadcaster. There will never be another Terry Wogan.

Derek: My mother lived next door to Terry when she was very young. She is very upset from the news about his death. She said he was great fun when he was young. He will be missed,
