David Bowie left an estate valued at approximately $100m (in excess of €92 million equivalent) to his wife, Iman, and his two children, and requested in his will that he be cremated and his ashes scattered on the Indonesian island of Bali.
The will was filed on Friday afternoon in a New York courthouse. The New York Times reports tha the iconic musician and actor left $2m to his assistant Corinne Schwab and $1m to Marion Skene, once nanny to his eldest child, his son Duncan Jones, the son from his previous marriage to Angela Barnett. Skene had been a life-long friend.
Along with 25% share in the estate, Bowie left a property on Little Tonshi Mountain, near Woodstock, to his 15-year-old daughter Alexandria. Duncan, who is now 44, was also bequeathed 25%.
Bowie sold 140m records during 50 years in music, and he also made an estimated $55m from selling so-called “Bowie bonds” which effectivley turned his royalties into financial instruments.
According to the Daily News, the remaining 50% of the estate goes to Iman, along with all his other properties, including their apartment on Manhattan's Lafayette Street.
Family members duly scattered his ashes following a Buddhist ceremony on Bali.
