A new all-star Irish movie is set to shock audiences with its controversial storyline about a relationship between a divorced mother and a teenage boy.

Mammal, stars Muriel's Wedding actress and Oscar nominee Rachel Griffiths and Love/Hate's Barry Keoghan (yes, yer man who killed the cat), and tells the story of a grieving divorceé, Margaret who develops an unlikely and intense bond with a homeless teenager, Joe, who stirs memories of her dead son.

After the boy moves in to her house, their deepening relationship is threatened by Joe's involvement in a gang, not to mention the anger of Margaret's ex-husband played by Game of Thrones' Michael McElhatton.

The haunting first trailer for Mammal has been released and is bound to generate a huge amount of interest for both the storyline and the intense central perofmances.

The movie is the latest Irish film, after John Carney's Sing Street, to receive rave notices at the Sundance Film Festival following its World Premiere earlier this week.

"It's such an honour and a fantastic start for Mammal," said director Rebecca Daly after hearing of her film's Sundance selection.

"I know how much US audiences love Rachel and am really excited to see what the audience at Sundance make of the film and a very different performance from her."

Daly received widespread acclaim for her debut The Other Side of Sleep, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight in 2011.
