The Big Short was honoured with the top prize at the 2016 Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards, making it the frontrunner for Best Picture at this year's Oscars in the minds of many.
Adam McKay's film about the recent financial crisis in America won the Darryl F. Zanuck Award at Saturday's ceremony, beating off stiff competition from Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Ex Machina, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Sicario, Straight Outta Compton and Spotlight.
The Big Short has become an Academy Awards favourite due to the fact that 19 of the last 26 Best Picture Oscar winners first won the Darryl F. Zanuck Award, so the odds are looking good for the Steve Carrell-starring film.
Other big winners on the night were Game of Thrones, which took home the episodic television drama award, Fargo which was honoured with the long-form television gong and Transparent, which won the episodic television comedy award.
