Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has said that despite an often difficult and gruelling shoot for The Revenant, the finished product made all the pain and suffering more than worthwhile.
The film, which opened in Ireland yesterday, leads the pack at this year's Oscars with twelve nominations including Best Picuture, Best Actor (Leonardo Di Caprio) and Best Director (Alejandro G Inarritu).
"When you work that hard and that long on something, your biggest worry is that it won't be worth it from an artistic point of view," Domhnall told TEN in London.
"It never felt like that would happen, we were in such capable hands with Alejandro [Gonzales Inarritu] and Leo [DiCaprio] being the lead, it always felt like it had a real shot at being great. But the worry is you froze your ass off for nothing, but I had a feeling this was going to be great."

Domhnall Gleeson says the tough shoot was worth it
His British co-star, Will Poulter, has praised Domhnall for helping to keep spirits high on the long and often difficult film shoot. The actor said there was a great sense of camaraderie on the set, which was shot in extreme weather conditions and isolated locations.
"With the shoot being as hard as it was, and as long as it was, and the fact that we all shared the common bond of being away from family and friends, we kind of became each other's family for that short period of time. Thankfully they're a bunch of very funny guys, Paul Anderson and Domhnall, so they kept spirits high."

Suffering for their art on The Revenant set
Poulter said that despite the arduous shoot, which won't be forgotten any time soon, he was able to enjoy the experience of watching the film objectively.
"I thought more than any film I would be reliving it watching it, but this is the first time I've ever watched a film that I've been in that I've been able to watch it objectively, I've been fully able to immerse myself in the world of the movie and forget everything and just experience. I think that speaks volumes about the film, it's incredibly immersive and affecting," he said.
The Revenant is on General Release.
