It's either the ultimate musical tribute or the height of bad taste, but Take That singer Howard Donald and his wife have named their newborn song Bowie in an apparent tribute to the late music legend.

Bowie, who was born on Tuesday, is Howard's third child but his first with wife of one year Katie Halil. He already has two daughters, Grace and Lola from a previous relationship.

The pop star tweeted to his 157,000 followers: "Bowie Taylan Donald came into the world on Tuesday, January 12" - two a day after his namesake's death was made public.

He added: "Mummy and daddy suffering sleep deprivation but life is wonderful, he is divine."

Donald has not confirmed his son is named after the singer, but he wrote a post commemorating Bowie after his death last weekend.

"Feel very honoured that I have a photo of me and Jay (Jason Orange) with David Bowie. When we did TOTP. What a genius and a great loss. RIP."

Mind you he wouldn't be the first musician to name one of his children after the late star.

Paul Weller named his sons John-Paul and Bowie

The former Jam frontman, Paul Weller, and his wife named their twin boy's after a trio of his musical heroes - John Paul and Bowie. Liam Gallagher was also part of the trend and named his son, Lennon.

However people get too sniffy, it's worth remembering that Bowie himself named his son Zowie. The renowned film-maker now goes by the more fortunate sounding moniker, Duncan Jones.
