David Beckham paid tribute to the late, great David Bowie at the 6th Biennial UNICEF Ball, calling him a "creative genius".
Beckham was being honoured at the star-studded ceremony with the charity's Humanitarian Leadership Award for his work helping children through his 7 Foundation.
Speaking on the red carpet ahead of the event Beckham paid tribute to Bowie who died on Sunday after a secret, 18-month battle with cancer.
The 40-year-old footballer said: "David was such a great man, such a great person and he was so influential in the music world and a creative genius."
He added: "He will be sorely missed but people are celebrating his music, people are celebrating his life, that's what's nice to see."
Ahead of the evening, he shared a photo to Instagram which showed him posing with a group of young children and said: 'Extremely honoured to receive the @UNICEFUSA’s Humanitarian Leadership Award this evening at the #UNICEFBall. 'I can’t wait to continue doing all I can for UNICEF and my 7 Fund, 7.org, to help children across the world.'
