Blindboy Boatclub of The Rubberbandits seems to have stolen the show on last night's Late Late Show 1916 debate with his views on how the centenary of the Rising should be marked and what life is like for the younger generation in Ireland.
The Limerick artist was part of a panel which included broadcaster and former TD Ivan Yates, artist Robert Ballagh and writer Martina Devlin.
Blindboy, who recently made an irreverent but accurate documentary about the Rising for RTÉ2 with comedy partner Mr Chrome, won applause from the audience and praise online for his views on neo-liberalism and his blunt assessment of how some young Irish people feel in 2016.
Asked by host Ryan Tubridy what his "generation” felt about The Rising, Blindboy said: “My generation can’t afford to buy a house, can’t afford to have a baby. My generation are either leaving the country or jumping in rivers."
Good craic on the late late. Was hard to get a word in though. Discussion should have been 2 hours long and included audience questions.
