Irish actress Caitriona Balfe has won a best actress award at the People's Choice Awards for her role in the fantasy drama Outlander.
The Monaghan woman took home the gong for Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress, while the Starz series Outlander was named the Favourite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV show.
Balfe is also nominated in the Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama category in this year's Golden Globe Awards, facing competition from Robin Wright (House of Cards), Viola Davis (How to Get Away With Murder), Eva Green (Penny Dreadful) and Taraji P. Henson (Empire).

In the film category, Furious 7 took home the top gong of Favourite Movie. Vin Diesel paid an emotional tribute to his late co-star Paul Walker as he accepted awards on behalf of the popular movie franchise.
Diesel choked back tears as he accepted the awards for favourite movie and favourite action movie, before launching into the opening lines of Wiz Khalifa's See You Again.

Hollywood A-listers Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock were named Favourite Actor and Actress, while Ellen DeGeneres brought her total to a record-tying 17 People's Choice wins when she picked up the trophy for favourite daytime TV host and a special award for favourite humanitarian.
After collecting her award she had a nice surprise for the audience.

The Big Bang Theory triumphed in the TV category, winning the award for Favourite TV Show, while its star Jim Parsons also was honoured for his role in the show.
There were no surprises in the music category as global superstars Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift were named Favourite Male and Female Artist respectively.
A dash of drama was added on the night when a stage-crasher rushed the stage as The Talk hosts accepted the award for favourite daytime hosting team, but Sharon Osbourne was quick to boot him off.
