Poldark's Irish star Aidan Turner is among the nominees for this month's National Television Awards (NTAs) in the UK.

The Dublin actor, who has become a Sunday night heartthrob with his starring role in the BBC period drama, is nominated for Best Drama Performance alongside David Tennant in Broadchurch, Sheridan Smith in Black Work and Suranne Jones in Doctor Foster.

Poldark and Doctor Foster are also shortlisted in the Best New Drama category alongside Ordinary Lies and Humans

Voting is open at nationaltvawards.com with the winners announced in a special live ITV show hosted by Dermot O'Leary on January 20. 

In the Best Drama category, Broadchurch, Casualty, Doctor Who and Downton Abbey are the nominees.

Graham Norton is shortlisted for the Best TV Presenter award, with his BBC chat show also nominated for Best Entertainment Programme.

Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks will battle it out for Best Serial Drama. 

Coronation Street's Shayne Ward, Emmerdale's Gemma Atkinson, EastEnders' Richard Blackwood and Hollyoaks' Parry Glasspool are the actors nominated for Best Newcomer.

The nominees for Best Serial Drama Performance are Coronation Street's Alison King, EastEnders duo Danny Dyer and Rakhee Thakrar and Emmerdale's Michael Parr.

Just three shows are nominated in the International category: The Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones and Orange is the New Black.
