Netflix Shows coming in 2016

The Crown - We'll be watching the throne alright
The Crown - We'll be watching the throne alright

It's that time of the year again when the funds are low, the evenings are long and the need for a good box-set is never more needed. Here's a round up of all your favourite returning Netflix shows along with some new options for 2016.

Making a Murderer: Streaming now on Netflix

One of the most addictive documentary series of all times - its the series that has everyone talking at the moment since it was recently released. The ten part series tells the story of Steven Avery, who was convicted and later exonerated of a brutal assault, only to find himself at the centre of another high profile criminal case.

Degrassi : Next Class (New) From January 15

Degrassi: Next Class is a pull-no-punches dramatic series that tackles the real-life issues of high school students. Telling the stories of “Generation Z,” the series focuses on a group of teens as they begin their journey into adulthood. Expect it to be much more hard hitting than the original Degrassi Junior High from the 1980s.

Better Call Saul (Season 2) New episodes weekly from February 16

The prequel to Breaking Bad follows small time attorney Jimmy McGill as he transforms into morally challenged lawyer Saul Goodman. Its first season, garnered seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including outstanding drama series, and won two Critics’ Choice TV Awards for best actor in a drama Series for Bob Odenkirk, who plays the lawyer with ahem rather unorthodox methods. Oh and it was also TEN's show of the year.

Love (New) Febraury 19

More comedy, this time from another big name signing Judd Apatow, who is one of the co-creators of this ten episode series which looks at the ups and downs of dating and relationships through the eyes of Gus (Paul Rust) and Mickey (Gillian Jacobs).

House of Cards (Season 4) Premieres March 4

Frank Underwood, played to chilling effect by Kevin Spacey, has announced his candidacy for president with the (rather ominous) slogan: "American, I am only getting started" and is unlikely  stop at nothing to conquer Washington DC in this Emmy and Golden Globe winning political drama. Neve Campbell is joining the cast this year and rumours suggest that a young couple could rival Frank and Claire Underwood - possibly with Campbell making up one half.

Marvel’s Daredevil (Season 2) March 18

Blinded as a young boy, Matt Murdock fights injustice by day as a lawyer and by night as the super hero Daredevil in Hell’s Kitchen, New York.

Orange is the New black (Season 4) Summer

A privileged New Yorker ends up on a woman’s prison when a past crime catches up with her in this Emmy winning series. Alex (Laura Prepon) survived her attack at the end of season three and it looks like the character will return to Litchfield more paranoid and ready for a fight. Also starring Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Laverne Cox, Kate Mulgrew, the new season is expected in early summer.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Season 2) Spring

Pour the Pinor Noir. A second season of Tina Fey's delightfully off beat comedy is coming. The series follows 29-year-old Kimmy as she adjusts to life in New York City after her rescue from a doomsday cult in Indiana. Starring Ellie Kemper, with superb supporting performances from Jane Krakowski and Tituss Burgess who plays her uber-gay room-mate who dreams of Broadway glory.

Marco Polo (Season 2)

Back for a second season despite less than spectacular reviews, Marco Polo is based on the famed explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court. Set in a world of greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry it's Netflix's attempt to corner some of the Game of Thrones market. Michelle Yeoh - she of Crouching Tiger, Higgen Dragon fame joins the cast this time around.

Bloodline  (Season 2)

When the black sheep son of a respected family threatens to expose dark secrets from their past, sibling loyalties are put to the test in this very soapy but enjoyable romp starring Kyle Chandler and Sissy Spacek.

Grace & Frankie (Season 2)

Another good comedy from Netflix. Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin co-star as two former rivals forced to reinvent their lives after their husbands come out as gay and declare they are a couple in this funny, honest, Emmy nominated series. A third season has already been ordered such is Netflix's confidence in it.

Bojack Horseman (Season 3)

Meet the most beloved sitcom horse of the 90s. Twenty years later he’s a curmudgeon with a heart of… not quite gold but something like gold…Copper?  Kinda bonkers and kinda brilliant, the cult animated series stars Will Arnett and Aaron Paul.

Sense8  (Season 2)

From the creators of The Matrix and Babylon 5, this sci-fi thriller examines the lives of eight people who can telepathically experience each other’s lives. It was always planned that the drama, which is helmed by The Wachowskis, would run for more than just one season. Last year we spoke to two of the stars, Daryl Hannah and Tuppence Middleton, to find out more about the very unique story.

Narcos  (Season 2)

One of the best things Netlix has ever been responsible for. The true - and often unbelieveable - story of Columbia’s infamously violet and powerful drug baron Pablo Escobar fuels this gritty drama series. Narcos stars Wagner Moura, Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal. If you haven't seen series one, go watch.

The Get Down (New)

This looks very promising. Created by Baz Luhrmann and Shawn Ryan The Get Down will focus on 1970s New York City. Described as a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco  told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids. Luhrmann, will direct the first two episodes and the season finale so at the very least it will look incredible.

The Crown
Downton withdrawals? Well, here's a royal appointment to view as The Queen writer Peter Morgan and The Hours director Stephen Daldry team up to bring Morgan's hit play The Audience to the small screen. The Crown tells the story of the early years of the reign of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, with intrigue, romance and rivalries galore promised over 10 episodes. We are impressed!
