The comedian Sacha Baron Cohen and the actor Isla Fisher are donating €910,000 to help Syrian refugees.
Half the sum of money will be given to Save the Children to fund measles vaccinations for children in northern Syria.
Justin Forsyth, chief executive of Save the Children, has declared that the donation would ‘save many thousands of lives and protect some of the most vulnerable children.’
“By allowing us to make their generous donation to Syrian children public, Sacha and Isla are helping highlight the tragedy of the issue today.”
The former British foreign secretary David Miliband - who is currently president of the International Rescue Committee - deemed the gift a “great expression of humanity”.
Fisher and Cohen are donating the other half of the money to the IRC to help refugees in Syria and neighbouring countries. They particularly wish to help women and children in the areas of health care, sanitation and shelter.
In excess of four million refugees have fled Syria for neighbouring countries, according to the United Nations.
