A TFI Friday source has confirmed that there are no plans for the Chris Evans-hosted entertainment show to return to Channel 4, with the presenter set to focus on his new role as the star of the BBC's Top Gear.

Having presented TFI Friday from 1996 to 2000, Evans returned for a 10-episode run in the autumn of 2015 where he welcomed such guests as U2, Saoirse Ronan, Justin Bieber and Quentin Tarantino.

"TFI was only ever envisaged as a one-off series," the Press Association quotes the source as saying.

"There have been some preliminary conversations about the potential for it to return but timing difficulties on both sides mean that there are no plans for TFI to come back."

Evans will debut as Top Gear host on BBC Two in May and will reportedly be joined by German racing driver Sabine Schmitz, journalist Chris Harris and F1 driver David Coulthard.
